About This School

Arroyo Paseo Charter High School  is a start-up charter school in its third year of operation. It is located in an office building in City Heights, an urban community of San Diego, south of Interstate 8 and adjacent to  Interstate 15.  The school population of 170 represents the diversity of the surrounding community in its composition of approximately 70% Hispanic and 25% African American students. Ninety percent of students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

The high school’s staff consists of highly motivated, young teachers committed to the school’s vision of bringing a rigorous high school education to a diverse community. The staff includes three English, two math, two history, two science, one physical education, and one part time art teacher. The instructional program is designed to deliver a personalized and caring educational experience through small class sizes and the opportunities for review and extra support that are built into a highly unique master schedule. Most class sizes are less than 20 students.

As the school grows and brings on more resources, it hopes to focus on preparing students to enter careers in local technical and scientific businesses by creating awareness and interest in those careers, by integrating science and technical topics into regular academic courses, and by providing science and technical electives at the site and opportunities to take those electives at community colleges.
